My Summer of Bringing Groove & Joy

Grooving outside is one of my favorite things.

I spent every weekend during the month of May training how to lead Groove classes, sharing the joy of dance, with about 34 people from around the world. What is Groove? We unite in a few simple movements which everyone then gets to dance in their own way. There’s no left or right. There’s no right or wrong because your way is the right way. Groove encourages us each to find and embrace our own authentic style, that which makes us each unique. It is very empowering and emphasizes the importance of learning to love ourselves as we are. And the mission of Groove is to bring joy to the world through dance. I love Groove so much! It has brought joy to my life during a very challenging time, and now it is my time to bring Groove to others so I can help them find joy too.

This summer, I began teaching Groove. I’ve taught classes inside gyms and dance studios. I’ve taught classes outside, including in the woods near my home. And I’ve taught classes online. My first classes as a new Groove Provider were practicum or practice classes, as I learned how to instruct this amazing and fun new experience.

I am currently finishing up my certification process. When I finish it, I will become a licensed Groove Facilitator instead of a Groove Provider. We have an entire year to complete this process, but I’m hoping to complete this before the summer ends. It has two stages, and I’ve successfully completed the first part. For the initial part, I had to submit a video of one of my classes. I chose one of my online classes. Along with the class video, I also submitted three pages of writing where I answered questions they had asked about the practicum process, my classes I’ve taught, and especially about my practicum class from the video. I had to watch the video closely and review every dance, writing about both what I did well as well as what areas I could improve in, for each song. I’m happy to announce that I have passed that stage of the process and am onto the final part!

The final part involves more instructional videos, a quiz, and the creation of a brand new class playlist with new songs and dances that just opened up to me. I’ve completed the videos, successfully achieved a 100% A+ on the quiz, and have put together my new playlist. Before I submit my brand new class playlist of dances and songs, I want to dance it with you! I have not decided yet whether it will be an online or in-person class. I’m leaning towards in-person and outside, either in the woods or perhaps on one of our local beaches, but part of that depends on upcoming weather forecasts. I’m keeping my eye out for some day near the end of July without storms in the forecast and hopefully with decent air quality. It might possibly end up being online if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Let me know if you are interested in dancing with me, and I’ll let you know when it will be. And stay tuned for my fall class schedule. The details will be coming out soon.

And thank you! I appreciate every one of you who have danced with me in a practicum class, liked or interacted with my social media posts, provided me space to dance in, sent me messages of encouragement, and followed my journey.

I dance because dancing brings me joy. We dance to bring joy to the world. Join me!

The path leads to you.
